Phosphatidylethanol peth test results
WebDec 1, 2024 · This article aims to place the phosphatidylethanol (PEth) blood test in the detection area of ethanol consumption causing alcohol-related disorders, to present the current methods of analysis, data on interpretation, some practical applications and the prospects of use of this biomarker. PEth is a minor metabolite of ethanol. WebRecent studies have indicated that the direct alcohol biomarker phosphatidylethanol (PEth) is superior to indirect markers like carbohydrate deficient transferrin (CDT). PEth is a pathological phospholipid formed in tissues only by the action of phospholipase D on phosphatidylcholine and ethanol.

WebApr 19, 2006 · Results: PEth, CDT, and GGT correlated to ethanol intake, with the strongest correlation found for PEth. The diagnostic sensitivity for PEth was 99%, and for other markers it varied between 40 and 77%. Only when CDT was combined with GGT was a sensitivity of 94% reached. PEth correlated to CDT and GGT but not to MCV. WebPEth results in combination with previous low positive EtG/EtS results allow differentiating between innocent/extraneous exposure and drinking. Negative PEth testing following low …
WebClinical Information: Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) is a direct biomarker for alcohol (ethanol) intake. In presence of ethanol, phosphatidylcholine is converted to PEth on the red blood cell membrane by the phospholipase D enzyme. PEth homologues (16:0/18:1 [POPEth: 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanol] and 16:0/18:2 [PLPEth: 1 ... WebMay 4, 2024 · A plot of all phosphatidylethanol (PEth 16:0/18:1) results presented in log scale (n = 519). In 155 cases, the PEth measurement was below the LLOQ (0.014 μmol/l). ... Comparison of the overlap of positive test results between PEth and other tests used as alcohol biomarkers (CDT (% disialotransferrin); GGT; MCV EtG). The total number of ...
WebResults: Over a one-year period, 153 PEth tests were performed on 109 individuals. The most frequent indications for PEth testing were as an objective indicator of alcohol use patterns (86.3%) and to assess alcohol as a putative etiology of liver injury (13.7%). Of the 109 patients, 56 were medically appropriate for liver transplantation. WebProvides information to assist in interpretation of the test results POPEth (1-Palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanol): A result of 20 ng/mL to 200 ng/mL is considered evidence of moderate ethanol consumption, while results over 200 ng/mL indicate heavy …
WebPEth in blood exists as a component of the red cell membrane. PEth is a mid to long-term alcohol biomarker, and a positive result (measuring phosphatidyl ethanol species 16:0/18:1) is an indication of alcohol exposure up to approximately 2-4 weeks …
