WebNorthern long-eared bats will glean or capture their food off tree foliage. Bats primarily rely on a radar system known as echolocation to locate prey. The bat emits high-pitched sound waves that strike an insect and then bounce back. The bat interprets the reflected sounds to locate the prey. WebNevertheless, long-term relationships do occur in some bat species despite frequent roost switching (Kerth et al., 2011) making bats an interesting group for studies of social ecology (Kerth, 2008). Interactions between roost-mates may reinforce relationships where fission–fusion dynamics exist.
